Minchinhampton Life was set up in 2017 by a group of volunteers as it was felt there was a need to bring the town together. A newcomer to the area might struggle to find out what was going on in the town and the surrounding area and when and where events were taking place. Also we hoped the website would inform newcomers, and others, which businesses and shops there are in the town. There were, and are, many good resources such as the Parish Council website, the Market House website and Churches’ websites but nothing that brought everything together.
The lack of Christmas decorations in the town had been commented on and in 2017 Minchinhampton Life managed to get ten small Christmas trees put up in the High Street and Market Square, as well as lights on a tree in the Churchyard. In 2018 the small trees increased in number to fifteen, and we are hoping to increase this in future years.
The bi-annual Minchinhampton Fayre had not been held for four years and another ambition for Minchinhampton Life was to get this up and running for 14th September 2019. A separate Fayre Committee was allocated to take responsibility for this and it was a great success. The next Fayre will be on 11th September 2021 and we hope that even more people will get involved with the result that we will be able to help more charities.
It was decided to amalgamate the two Committees and so the Minchinhampton Life Committee now consists of Andrew Lane; Adrian Herbert; Janet Chamberlain; Karen Colebourn; Peta Bunbury; Lou Buckley; Gwenneth Vardy; Sheryl Hobbs-Canning; Lyndsey Fair; Lorraine Smith and Nigel and Anne Parry. Thanks to John and Jean Mounsey and Norah Brooks who have now stepped down.
